Fourth Parliamentary Elections 2023: National Council

Pursuant to Sections 577 and 579 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB), hereby calls Bye-Elections to fill up the vacant posts in the following Demkhongs.
1.Tshogpa ofGarzhikha_Omchheygang Chiwog ofBjenag Gewog under Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag due to voluntary resignation; and
2. Tshogpa of Zamding Chiwog of Ruebisa Gewog under Wangdue Phodrang Dzongkhag due to voluntary resignation.
The Election Schedule and the details concerning Dzongkhag/Demkhong, Nomination of Candidates, Electoral Rolls, EVMs, Polling Stations, Polling Officials, Security, and other arrangements are hereby being notified as follows:
Pursuant to Sections 577 and 579 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB), hereby calls Bye-Election to fill up the Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa post at Dhangkhar_Trong Chiwog under Zhemgang Dzongkhag due to the demise of the incumbent member.
The Election Schedule and the details concerning Dzongkhag/Demkhong, Nomination of Candidates, Electoral Rolls, EVMs, Polling Stations, Election Officials, and other arrangements are hereby being notified as follows:
Pursuant to Section 457 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) hereby declares the results of the Bye-Elections conducted to fill the vacant posts for the following Demkhongs:

The poll day for the Bye-elections in the above two Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa Demkhongs was held on March 2, 2026.
The overall voter turnout details are as follows:
1.Garzhikha_Omchheygang Chiwog under Bjenag Gewog
In terms of voter turnout, of the 269 registered eligible voters (Male: 143 & Female: 126), 88 (EVM:57 & Postal Ballot:31) cast their votes on the day of the poll with overall voter turnout at 32.71%.
2. Zamding Chiwog under Ruebisa Gewog
In terms of voter turnout, of the 456 registered eligible voters (Male:224 & Female:232), 211 (EVM:177 & Postal Ballot:34 ) cast their votes on the day of the poll with overall voter turnout at 47.27%.

It is also hereby being notified that as per Section 580 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the members elected shall only serve for the remainder term of his/her predecessor’s term of office.
The public and all stakeholders may note that the Election Petition Period of 10 days for this Bye-Election starts today and ends at 5 p.m. on March 12, 2026.
