The Legal and Communication Division is responsible for upholding legal compliance and ensuring effective communication in the electoral processes of the Election Commission of Bhutan. The Division provides legal advisory services, manages electoral disputes, and supports the development and review of electoral laws, rules, and procedures to ensure the conduct of free, fair, transparent, and credible elections. It also facilitates timely, accurate, and consistent dissemination of information to stakeholders and the general public.
The key responsibilities include:
Interpreting and ensuring compliance with electoral laws, rules, regulations, and policies.
Providing legal opinions and supporting the formulation, review, and amendment of legal frameworks and procedures.
Managing and facilitating the resolution of electoral disputes in coordination with relevant dispute settlement bodies.
Coordinating with key legal institutions, including the Office of the Attorney General and the Judiciary.
Overseeing media relations and ensuring accurate and timely public communication.
Monitoring and addressing misinformation, disinformation, and misuse of digital platforms.
Providing Dzongkha translation, interpretation, and standardization of electoral terminologies.
Supporting voter education and public awareness initiatives.
