The Electoral Registration Division of the Election Commission of Bhutan acts as the backbone of Bhutan’s democratic process, ensuring that every eligible citizen can vote and that elections are conducted with a reliable and transparent voter registry. It is responsible for managing Bhutan’s entire voter registration system and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and legality of the country’s electoral roll.
The key responsibilities include:
Assist the delimitation commission during the delimitation exercise (voter population distribution).
Supervise Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) and field staff nationwide in preparing, maintaining, and regularly updating the national electoral roll (new voters, transfers, corrections, deletions).
Ensure all eligible Bhutanese citizens are included and ineligible names are removed.
Manage postal ballot registration (as per eligibility)
Monitor performance of registration activities across nation.
Submit updates to the Commission for decision-making.
Ensure readiness of voter data before elections.
