Declaration of the Result of Bye-Election for the post of the Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa in Dhangkhar_Trong Chiwog of Trong Gewog under Zhemgang Dzongkhag

Pursuant to Section 457 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) hereby declares the result of the Bye-Election conducted to fill the vacant post of the Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa in Dhangkhar_Trong Chiwog of Trong Gewog under Zhemgang Dzongkhag.

Ugyen Choden, holdingCID No. 12008000260,  has been successfully elected to the above-mentioned post during the poll held on March 12, 2026.

In terms of the overall voter turnout, of the 627 registered eligible voters (M= 303 & F= 324), 248 (EVM: 179 & Postal Ballot: 69) cast their votes on the poll day with overall voter turnout at 39.55%.

Declaration of Local Government Bye-Election Results in Garzhikha_Omchheygang Chiwog under Bjenag Gewog & Zamding Chiwog under Ruebisa Gewog under Wandue Phodrang Dzongkhag

Pursuant to Section 457 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) hereby declares the results of the Bye-Elections conducted to fill the vacant posts for the following Demkhongs:

The poll day for the Bye-elections in the above two Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa Demkhongs was held on March 2, 2026.

The overall voter turnout details are as follows:

1.Garzhikha_Omchheygang Chiwog under Bjenag Gewog

In terms of voter turnout, of the 269 registered eligible voters (Male: 143 & Female: 126), 88 (EVM:57 & Postal Ballot:31) cast their votes on the day of the poll with overall voter turnout at 32.71%.

2. Zamding Chiwog under Ruebisa Gewog

In terms of voter turnout, of the 456 registered eligible voters (Male:224 & Female:232),  211 (EVM:177 & Postal Ballot:34 ) cast their votes on the day of the poll with overall voter turnout at 47.27%.

Declaration of the Result of Local Government Bye-Election

In accordance with the provision enshrined under Section 457 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the Election Commission of Bhutan (ECB) hereby declares the result of the Bye-Election conducted to fill the vacant post of the Gewog Tshogde Tshogpa of Mendrel_Uesuna Chiwog of Dokar Gewog under Paro Dzongkhag.

Mr. Tshering Wangyal, holding CID No. 10801002452, hailing from Uesuna village, has been successfully elected to the above-mentioned post during the poll held on January 29, 2026.

In terms of the overall voter turnout, of the 475 registered eligible voters (M= 200 & F= 275),  155 (EVM: 125 & Postal Ballot: 30) cast their votes on the poll day with overall voter turnout at 32.63%.

The Election Commission of Bhutan is pleased to announce the results of the vacancies for following positions through an open competitive selection procedure that was held from September 22, 2025– September 25, 2025.

1.Selected candidates are requested to submit the drug test report along with other documents as specified below.

Asst.  ICT Officer and Asst. Dz. Electoral Registration Officer (DzERO)

  • Must have a minimum of 65% in Class X, XII, and Degree.

General Criteria for All Posts

  1. Academic transcripts of Class X, XII, and Degree.
  2. Valid Security Clearance Certificate.
  3. Copy of Citizenship Identity Card.
  4. Latest Medical Fitness Certificate (valid for at least six months).
  5. Audit Clearance (for in-service candidates).
  6. No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the parent organization (for in-service candidates).
  7. Drug Test Certificate (to be submitted upon selection).
  8. For applicants, marks will be calculated as follows:
    • Class X: English + best 4 subjects
    • Class XII: English + best 3 subjects
  9. Final selection will be based on a merit system:
    • Academic (25%): Class X – 5%, Class XII – 10%, Degree – 10%
    • Written Exam: 50%
    • Viva Voce: 25%
  10. Candidates will be shortlisted based on the academic criteria specified in Sl. No. 9.
  11. Shortlisted candidates will be called for Written Examination and Viva Voce in a 1:3 ratio (Post: Applicants).
  12. Candidates must be proficient in both Dzongkha and English.
  13. Candidates shall not be more than 45 years on the date of appointment.
  14. Qualification must possess a formal degree from RGoB-recognized universities/colleges.
  15. Selected candidates must commit to a minimum of 4 years of active service, including probation.

Non-submission of any of the above documents or incomplete submission shall lead to the rejection of the application. Copies are acceptable for the application. However, a candidate shall produce original documents at the time of the interview for verification. 

Note: – The written examination will be held at 10:00 am on April 28, 2026 in the ECB, Head Office.

The Viva-Voce will be held on April 29, 2026 starting 9:30 am in the ECB, HQ.

The Final Result will be declared on May 4, 2026.

Declaration of the Results of the Dzongkhag Thromde Elections of Thimphu, Phuentshogling and Gelegphu

The Election Commission of Bhutan is pleased to hereby declare, as required under Section 457 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008, the results of the Thromde Elections held on 28th April 2021 for the three Dzongkhag Thromdes of Thimphu, Phuentshogling and Gelegphu.

Out of the total of 35 (26 male and 9 female) candidates who contested the elections, a total of 20 (16 male and 4 female) were successfully elected.

The details of the candidates who have been successfully elected to the three Thromde Tshogdes are as follows:

The overall voter turnout and registered voter information are as follows:

Total registered voters = 10,564 (4,968 male & 5,596 female)
Total number of votes cast = 6,281 (2,902 male & 3,379 female)

i. EVM votes = 4,428 (1,985 male & 2,443 female)
ii. Postal votes = 1,853 (917 male & 936 female)

Voter turnout = 59.46 %

The Thromde Tshogpa of Motithang demkhong under Thimphu Thromde and Trashiling demkhong under Gelegphu Thromde will remain vacant. Although the aspiring candidates of these demkhongs had submitted their nominations, the ECB could not accept their nominations as they were found to be registered members of political parties. The Election Act does not allow an aspiring candidate to contest the Local Government election if he/she is a member of a political party.

Recognizing the gravity of the risk posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdown situation, elections in Phuentshogling Thromde was facilitated through Mobile Voting Booth for voters residing, both within the thromde and outside the thromde on 24th and 25th April, 2021.

Upon issue of this Notification, the Thromde Tshogde shall be deemed to have been duly constituted under Section 458 of the Election Act of the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2008.

The general public and all stakeholders may note that the Election Petition Period of 10 working days for this Thromde elections starts from today and would end at 5 p.m. of 12th May 2021.

The Election Commission of Bhutan would like to congratulate all the elected candidates of the Third Thromde elections, 2021.

In the wake of unprecedented surge in COVID-19 cases in the region and the high risk of transmission, all gatherings and celebrations shall be prohibited until such time the situation improves.
